Equilibrium-based processes such as distillation, evaporation, extraction, leaching, chromatography, absorption and stripping, absorption on ion-exchange resins, zeolites and activated coal as well as rate-governed processes such as membrane separation, reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, dialysis, electrodialysis and gas separations by membrane permeation.
